Former Jacksonville High soccer standout Jeff Landrum scored his first collegiate goal on Friday afternoon as Landrum’s East Texas Baptist University team lost a heartbreaker, falling to Concordia, Texas 3-2 in double overtime.
The American Southwest Conference (NCAA Division III) match was played at the ETBU Soccer Complex in Marshall.
The Tornadoes (4-7-0, 2-5-0 in ASC) scored once in the first and once in the second periods to go up 2-0 before ETBU began to click offensively.
Landrum put the Tigers (0-8-0, 0-6-0 in ASC) on the board at the 79:46 mark, scoring off a feed from Juan Ramirez.
About 10 minutes later the Tigers tied the game on Justin Bailey’s goal before the visitors’ Oscar Diaz punched the ball in at 108:27 to secure the win.
Landrum said he was surprised to score the goal and that he was excited, but at the same time he would have really liked for his team to have been able to get the victory.
“I couldn’t believe the ball went in, in fact I didn’t even see it go in, one of my teammates told me that it went in,” he said. “It felt good to get my first goal at the college level, but I would have really like for us to got the win.
“We are a really young team; I think we only have two or three seniors.”
ETBU was schedule to play the University of Texas-Tyler on Saturday and will visit University of Texas-Dallas on Thursday.
Landrum, a freshman, is a defenseman for ETBU.
