LMC men beat Baton Rouge CC in Angelina Classic
LUFKIN — The Lon Morris College Bearcats improved to 8-1 by carving out a 73-63 win over the Bears of Baton Rouge (La.) Community College Friday afternoon in opening day play of the Coca-Cola/Guy Davis Tournament at Angelina College. The ‘Cats’ only loss came last week when LMC fell at the hands of Lamar State-Port Arthur in the Region XIV opener. LMC was scheduled to face the Texas Riders (a non-NJCAA club) on Saturday afternoon.
Texas Riders halt Jaguars’ six-game winning streak
LUFKIN — Jacksonville College’s shooting was just about as cold as the weather outside on Friday evening as the Texas Riders, a non-NJCAA member, ended the JC men’s six-game winning streak by stopping the Jaguars 76-74 in the opening round of the Coca-Cola/Guy Davis Tournament, which is being held at Angelina College. JC struggled to get anything going offensively while the Riders’ defense held the Jags to their lowest offensive output of the year. JC entered the game averaging 110.5 points per game. The Jags were scheduled to face No. 6-ranked Midland College (9-2) late Saturday afternoon.
Lady Bearcats’ Friday contest canceled
The Houston Jaguars (non-NJCAA team) were a late scratch on Friday which resulted in the Lon Morris College Lady Bearcats (3-6) getting the night off. The Lady ‘Cats were supposed to have played Houston in first-round action of the Lady Bearcat Thanksgiving Classic. Friday’s lone tilt saw Kilgore College (6-1) roll past the Shreveport Sting 75-51. The Sting were slated to face the LMC ladies late Saturday afternoon. LMC will entertain Kilgore College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Region XIV home opener.
