CUSHING — It was Miller Time at Cushing Galcat Park Friday night.
Relax, this Miller Time has nothing to do with an adult beverage.
Rusk's Rachel Miller hit home runs in Games 2 and 3 of the best-of-3 Class 4A, Region III, bi-district series as Rusk cruised to 11-1 (5 innings) and 17-4 (6 innings) wins over Diboll to capture the series two games to one.
Rusk (15-10-1) now moves on to an Area around date with Waco Robinson later next week. Further details were not available as of press time.
After evening the series up with a run rule win in Game 2, the Lady Eagles played with a calm-confident swagger in the rubber game Friday night.
The Lady Eagles rocked two Ladyjack pitchers from the get go but a six run six frame was the dagger that ended the Ladyjacks' season at 16-15.
The inning was highlighted by a massive grand slam by Miller that cleared the scoreboard in left center field that sent Rusk's final four runs across the dish. It was Miller's third round tripper of the series.
Miller Time, indeed.
Diboll added two runs in the bottom of the segment, but it was far too little to change anything.
Kristin Tugwell earned a complete game win in the pitching circle for Rusk. Tugwell gave up 10 hits and struck out two.
She also went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and four RBU.
Alyssa Isaacs had three hits in four official trips, while Kaitlin Tugwell picked up two hits and drove in a couple of runs for the winners.
Miller also hit a double and amassed seven RBI in the game, proving to be a thorn in the side of the Ladyjacks, the second place team out of District 20-4A.
Meanwhile, Cassie Fletcher posted a 3-for-4 evening and scored three times while Morgan Beene stroked two singles for Rusk.
