The District 17-3A lid lifter between Rusk and Bullard at Eagle Coliseum on Friday lived up to its pre-match hype, with the Lady Panthers scoring a 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-12) win over the Lady Eagles, in a back-and-forth contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats all afternoon.

“Even though we did not get the win, I am extremely proud at how hard our girls played and the effort that they gave,” Rusk head coach Stephanie Branch said.

Paige Fincher led Rusk (11-11, 0-1) with 10 spikes and Bailee Gates had 16 service aces.

Defensively, Tori Choate made 12 digs for the lady Eagles, while Lauren Talancon led her team in blocks with five.

Kasey Finley logged 22 assists for the Lady Eagles, who have an open date on Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers (15-11, 1-0) are back in action on Tuesday, playing a 7 p.m. match in Athens.
