Paitlyn Taylor rounds third base during a recent Jacksonville softball game. The Maidens came up short Friday as Lindale routed Jacksonville, 17-0 in a District 14-4A affair played at Fightin’ Maiden Field. Jacksonville is now 10-15-2, 0-7 in district, on the year.

Lindale seemed determined to make amends for their inability to string multiple hits together in an inning which resulted in the Lady Eagles losing to Henderson, 2-1, on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles (23-7, 5-2 in district) churned out 13 runs on eight hits in the second and third innings of Friday’s league test at Fightin’ Maiden Field, before departing the city with a 17-0 victory over Jacksonville (10-15-2, 0-7).

Lindale completed their scoring by plating a pair of runs in each of the final two frames — the game was reduced to five innings due to the mercy rule.

Kathryn Wright collected two home runs in the game to lead Lindale.

She drove in three runs, scored twice and had a stolen base.

Her first blast, a solo shot to lead off the third nearly hit the scoreboard beyond the left field fence while her fourth-frame two-run long ball didn’t travel quite as far, but still easily cleared the fence in left.

Val Howan also ripped a two-run homer in the second inning for the visitors.

The Fightin’ Maidens managed to get just two hits in the game — a double to the fence in center off the bat of Katelyn Arrington that came with two outs in the fourth and a base hit into right by MacKenzie Crow in the last segment.

Jacksonville had just four runners to reach base in the game with Jaylyn Stone and Crow getting aboard on base on balls as Lindale’s Devin Marsh and Grace Stubblefield combined for the two-hit shutout.

Marsh worked the first three innings and did not give up a hit while striking out five and walking two.

Both of the Maidens’ safeties came off of Lady Eagle reliever Stubblefield who mopped up by tossing the fourth and the fifth frames.

Crow incurred the loss in the circle for Jacksonville. She pitched the first-four innings while Paitlyn Taylor got things cleaned up by closing out the contest.

Jacksonville will host Whitehouse at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
