Jacksonville started the day off on a good foot by defeating host Sabine 2-0 (25-18, 25-23) in the first round of the lady cardinal’s tournament Saturday.
The Maidens then moved into a winner’s bracket semi-final match where they lost a hard-fought match to Leverett’s chapel 2-0 (18-25, 23-25).
Jacksonville closed out play in the event by falling to Union Grove 2-1 (15-25, 25-23, 10-25) in the third-place match.
Shelbi Laney was selected to the all-tournament team.
The Maidens (4-16, 0-1 in district) will play their first home-league match tonight against Kilgore. The freshmen will get things rolling at 5 p.m., followed the junior varsity and varsity matches.
NOTE: The Maiden JV squad also went 1-2 at Sabine on Saturday, winning over Henderson Full Armor Christian 2-0 (25-15, 25-10) and losing to Sabine (2-1) and to Union Grove 2-0...The JHS freshman unit won the consolation title of the Arp Tournament on Saturday by downing Daingerfield 2-0 (25-17, 25-13) in the consolation final. The Maidens lost their opener to Henderson (2-0) before beating Gary (2-1) earlier in the day.
