Midland Tip-Off Classic: Lady Jaguars lose big to Butler (Kan.)


MIDLAND — Jacksonville College's long weekend out west started out on a sour note Thursday afternoon when the Lady Jaguars lost, 72-49, to Butler (Kansas) in opening day play of the Midland Tip-Off Classic.

Leading 18-15 after one period of play, Butler broke the game open in the second frame by outscoring the JC women 18-8.

Butler (3-1) cleaned up at the foul line by sinking 23-27 shots (85.2-percent).

The ladies from Kansas also out rebounded the Lady Jags, 37-15.

Ca'Leyah Burrell led JC with 16 points while Na'Kendra Ellis knocked in eight.

JC (1-3) will take on Air Force Prep at 2 p.m. Friday and will wrap up play in the classic at 4 p.m. Saturday against Midland.
