Ramie Weaver of New Summerfield follows her shot during a game in late November. The Lady Hornets pummeled West Rusk 57-40 in a game played at Hornet Gymnasium on Monday morning. Weaver scored 14 points and had seven rebounds in the game. The Lady Hornets are now 10-7 on the year.

The New Summerfield Lady Hornets should probably not expect to receive a Christmas present from the West Rusk Lady Raiders this year.

For the second time this season the Lady Hornets trounced West Rusk, winning 57-40 on Monday morning at Hornet Gymnasium.

The New Summerfield girls posted a 48-36 decision over the Lady Raiders back on Nov. 23 in New London.

The victory moves the Lady Hornets to 10-7 on the year.

Defense was the name of the game for New Summerfield as the Lady Hornets used their pressure defense and highly-regarded press to limit West Rusk to just 16 points in the first half.

Conversely, New Summerfield was able to score a bevy of points — 33, to be exact — in the first 16 minutes of play.

With many of the Lady Hornet reserves taking over in the third stanza, West Rusk was able to make up a bit of ground as the lady Hornets led 38-30 after three quarters of action.

New Summerfield bounced back in the closing stanza by outscoring the Lady Raiders 19-10.

Three Lady Hornets, Ana Hernandez, Ramie Weaver and Maritzza Melendez scored in double figure, with Hernandez leading the charge with 27 points.

Weaver gunned in 14 while Melendez netted 10.

Erica Parra, Cindy Medellin and Weaver each had seven rebounds for the Lady Hornets.

New Summerfield will open District 23-A-I play on Jan. 7, 2011 by traveling to Cushing for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
