Maidens notch first win of season
BROWNSBORO — Jacksonville used its long game to secure its first win of the season, a 33-20 blasting of Brownsboro on Tuesday night at the Brownsboro Gymnasium. Britney Giaccone, who was the game's top scorer with 11 points, drained three triple, while Sheena Canady added one. Meanwhile the Bearettes (1-1) were able to sink just one shot form beyond the arc. The game was tied at 15 at the break, but the Maidens punished the Bearettes in the third, outscoring the home team, 11-0. Keevie Mathis wound up with eight points and Canady chunked in seven. Other scorers for the Maidens (1-2) were, Amber Hawkins (3), Chancii Scott (2) and Shunterial Session (2). The Bearettes were paced in the scoring column by LaQuesha Cooper's nine points. Brownsboro prevailed in a big way in the junior varsity tilt, winning 43-16. Jacksonville hosts Lufkin Hudson at 5:15 p.m. on Friday in the Maidens' home opener.
Spears scores 31 in Lady Panther victory
LINDALE — Minta Spears, a Texas Tech signee, accounted for 31 points in Bullard's 40-35 win over Lindale at Eagle Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles (1-2) led 17-14 at intermission, but were outscored 26-18 by the Lady Panthers (2-0) in the second half. Natasha Malone fired in 16 to guide Lindale on offense. The two teams trade wins in sub-varsity action, with Bullard taking a 30-28 decision in the junior varsity game and the Lady Eagles coming out on top (31-20) in the freshmen affair. Bullard visits Hallsville at 3 p.m. on Friday.
Wells wins in runaway over Gary
WELLS — The Wells Pirates successfully opend the new seaosn on Tuesday night by chalkking up a 71-52 win over Gary at Pirate Gymnasium. Luke Thorton led the Pirates wiiht 14 points, while Stephen White added 10 to go along with seven rebounds. Connor Coligan added seven boards for Wells and Mat Wood had a seven-assist night. The Pirates will be taking part in the Brookleand Tournament (today through Saturday).
