Rusk offense sputters in 34-6 loss to Spring Hill

It was a tough night at the office for the Rusk Eagles on Friday when the Red and Black lost, 34-6, to Spring Hill at Panther Stadium in Longview.

The Eagles (0-4) just couldn't get going on offense against an improving Spring Hill squad that is now

2-2 on the year.

Spring Hill led from start to finish after getting on the scoreboard first with about 7:00 to go in the first quarter when the Panthers scored on a 52-yard pass play and added the 2-point conversion run to go up, 8-0.

The Panthers enjoyed a 14-0 lead at the break after scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run near the end of the opening half.

Spring Hill then extended its lead to 20-0 about 4:00 minutes into the third frame, getting another 1-yard run.

Rusk managed to get on the scoreboard midway through the third stanza when JoJo McGowen connected with Landon Gates on a 20-yard scoring strike. The try for two was unsuccessful, with the Eagles trimming the Panther lead to 20-6 at that point.

The Panthers came back to sealed the deal by adding a rushing score about two minutes into the final period.

Sean Rogers had an interception in the first half for Rusk.

Next week the Eagles will be in Henderson to take on the 4-1 Lions. Henderson's only loss came to the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A-II, Pleasant Grove.
