WILLS POINT — Rusk head football coach Jowell Hancock said his players told him all week to make sure he brought a change of clothes with him to Friday's game.

After the Eagles pounded Wills Point to 48-6 in Wills Point to win Rusk's first district championship since 2004, Hancock needed those dry clothes, after the team dumped the water cooler on top of him as a part of the post game celebration.

“Our kids were excited about winning district, to say the least, “ Hancock said. “It was a long journey and we had disappointments along the way but we were able to grow from it and learn from it and we were able to finish strong.”

After starting the year 0-6, Rusk went 4-0 in conference play to secure the league title.

Rusk handed it to the Tigers from the start Friday and led 34-6 at halftime.

Hancock said defensively Sean Rogers had a scoop and score and Caleb McNair played well. As a unit Rusk held the Tigers on numerous fourth down attempts.

Quarterback Jaylon Hall turned in a solid performance to kick start the Eagle offense.

The Eagles will take on Waco Robinson at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Moorhead Stadium in Conroe in a Class 4A, Region III bi-district contest.
