Rusk's bid for 7-4A-II title fails after 46-18 loss to Wills Point

Sean Rogers, one of several Rusk seniors who was honored on Senior Night on Friday at Eagle Stadium, looks to juke around a Wills Point defender after making a catch. The Eagles lost to Wills Points, 46-18.

RUSK — Wills Point came into Eagle Stadium in Rusk on Friday and handed the Red and Black its first district loss, a 46-18 defeat.

The win earned the Tigers (6-4, 3-1) the District 7-4A-II championship and moved the Eagles (3-7, 3-1) into second place in the district standings.

Rusk will face Salado, a 42-21 winner over Fairfield on Friday, in a bi-district matchup on Friday, Nov. 15, at a location to be announced.

Wills Point jumped out to a 19-0 lead before Eagle quarterback Jaylon Hall burst into the end zone with a 1-yard run that came with about 6:00 left in the first half.

The three touchdown deficit proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome.
