CORSICANA — Salado scored 43 unanswered to points to soar past Rusk 57-16 on Friday night in a Class 4A, Division II, Region III Bi-district match up that was played at Corsicana's Tiger Stadium.
Rusk, the District 7-4A-II runner up, ends the year with a 3-8 record while Salado (8-3) advances to play Texarkana Pleasant Grove, who creamed Nevada Community 55-14 on Friday night.
Rusk marched 66 yards in nine plays to score on the first possession of the game. That's when Jaylon Hall tossed a 19-yard touchdown strike to put the Red and Black on the board first.
After a 2-point conversion pass Rusk led 8-0.
Unfortunately for the guys from southern Cherokee County that would be all they would have to cheer about for quite some time as Salado, the third-place unit form District 8-4A-II, scored the next 43 points in the game to put things out of reach for Rusk early.
Salado led 36-8 at halftime and scored on the third play of the third segment when one of the Central Texas Eagles scored on a 47-yard run.
Rusk came back on the ensuing possession to register its second, and final, score of the game.
Hall tossed a 14-yard scoring strike to account for the Rusk score. He also threw the 2-point conversion that cut the Salado lead toe 43-16 with with around 8:00 minutes to play in the third frame.
Salado's ground attack out of the slot-t formation lived up to its billing with three Salado players rushing for more than 100 yards — as a team Salado piled out just more than 500 yards rushing.
At halftime Salado had 307 total yards to Rusk's 150.
Hall finished the night by going 22-42-1 for 292 yards and two touchdowns.
