Spaces are available in free beginner's tennis lessons program

The first install of the annual City of Jacksonville Recreation Program and Jacksonville Tennis Association (JTA) Beginner's Tennis Lesson clinics got under way Monday morning at Buckner Park.

On Tuesday's, beginning today and running through Tuesday, July 2, the instructional program will take place at Lincoln City Park in north Jacksonville.

The lesson are free of charge and no advanced registration is required.

Participants are encouraged to bring a tennis racquet. If a camper doesn't have a racquet, one will be provided.

Serving as instructors this summer are two men (David Hanna and Chuck Roper) who coach tennis at the Jacksonville Independent School District schools.

The classes serve as an avenue to introduce the game of tennis to children and youth in a relaxed, easy-to-learn atmosphere where patient instructors provide ample one-on-one coaching.

The Bucker Park classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays (June 19, 24, 26 and July 1, 3)

The hours of instruction at both Buckner Park and Lincoln City Park are: children 7-10 years old, 9-10 a.m. and youth 11-14 years old, 10-11 a.m.
