LINDALE — According to the Southwest Junior College Football Conference coaches and members of the working media who cover the teams, the Blinn Buccaneers and the Kilgore Rangers appear to be the clubs to beat this season.
The respective coaches' and media polls were unveiled on Friday during the annual Media Day activities, which took place at the Garden Valley Golf Resort near Lindale.
In the coaches' poll Blinn came out on top, followed by defending champion Kilgore, who mustered up five first place nods.
Northeastern Oklahoma was picked third, followed by Tyler, Trinity Valley, Navarro, Cisco and New Mexico Military Institute.
Likewise the media had Blinn and Kilgore as the top teams, with Northeastern Oklahoma and Navarro in the third and fourth positions.
Rounding out the order of finish was Tyler, Cisco and New Mexico Military Institute.
Six first place nods went to Blinn in the media poll, with Kilgore picking up three.
Former Jacksonville High School standout Josh McDowell is now playing for Tyler — he signed with Houston Baptist out of high school — and Rusk's Jermaine Lewis will be suiting up for the Cardinals from Trinity Valley. Lewis is a true freshman.
Jacksonville native Russell Thompson serves as the head coach at Cisco.
