Tribe linksters launch new season

JACKSONVILLE TRIBE GOLF

BULLARD — An unseasonably warm day welcomed the Jacksonville High School golf team to Emerald Bay in Bullard on Wednesday for the squad's first tournament of the year.

Jacksonville had a team total of 425 (18 holes), which according to the team's head coach, Jason Shuck, was better than any of the scores the team posted last season.

Freshman Collin Lockett carded a team-best 91 (42-49) and Ben Mendoza, a senior, was close behind (49-47 —96).

Meanwhile freshman Devon Nelson turned in a 58-58 —116 while sophomore Logan Johnson shot 61 on the front and on the nine to end the day at 122.

Senior Jaxson Murray was unable to completed his round due to illness.

Jacksonville will be back in action at 9 a.m. on Feb. 18 when the Tribe will travel to Gladewater (Tempest Golf Club) for the Sabine Tournament.

On March 4 Jacksonville will be hosting its annual tournament at the Cherokee Ranch Golf Club.
