Two Bullard men to compete in Texas State Open

TYLER — Bullard residents Jaxon Bellar and Blake Elliott will be taking part in the 49th Tanos Exploration II/Patterson-UTI Drilling Texas State Open (TSO) golf tournament, which is scheduled to get under way on Tuesday at the Cascades in Tyler.

The tournament, which features an estimated $200,000 purse, will run through Friday.

Bellar will tee off at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday, with Elliott slated to get started at 1:51 p.m. Both men will start out on the No. 10 hole.

This year's TSO will also feature former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo in the field.

Romo, who is now the lead color analyst on CBS Sports' NFL telecasts, will tee off at 8:24 a.m. on No. 10.

Romo won the American Century Championship in Stateline, Nev. earlier this month.

Bellar, Elliott and Romo will all compete as amateurs.

The TSO will consist of 146 players and will be played over 72 holes.

Ben Kern of Georgetown is the defending champion and El Paso's Michael Salazar was last year's low amateur. Both are back this year.
